How to Improve Golf Swing Consistency: 4 Keys Every Golfer Needs
/Control the Game: Master These 4 Areas
At Dennis Sales Golf Academy, we believe that controlling your golf game comes down to mastering four interconnected elements:
Control Your Mind
Control Your Body
Control Impact
Control Ball Flight
Let’s break down each one and explore how we train golfers to take command of their performance.
1. Control Your Mind
Every swing starts with a thought. Without it, there’s no movement. The brain sends the signal that triggers the body—and that signal must be clear, confident, and based on a solid understanding of the task at hand.
We simplify this understanding through education. Using our grid-based training systems, players learn how setup and alignment influence ball flight. Once players understand this, their brain has a clear framework for decision-making.
But understanding alone isn’t enough. Commitment is everything. That’s why we build in pre- and post-shot routines to help you manage distractions, assess outcomes, and make real-time adjustments. This mental clarity keeps your process repeatable and your emotions in check—especially under pressure.
2. Control Your Body
Once your mind commits to the shot, your body carries it out. How your body is organized—from setup through transition—dictates how effectively it can execute your intent.
Body orientation affects everything: sequence, rhythm, and ultimately your ability to return the club to the ball in a consistent way. Misaligned joints or incorrect posture introduces compensations and inconsistency.
That’s why we simplify body organization using our “coding system”—a teaching method that helps players understand joint positions and movement patterns in a way that’s easy to apply. With better coding, comes better control of shot shape and trajectory.
3. Control Impact
Impact is the moment of truth. It’s where all the energy you’ve built up gets transferred from club to ball. And it’s deeply influenced by one overlooked variable—the shaft.
The shaft acts as a bridge between your body’s intent and the clubhead’s action. The EI curve (flex profile) of every shaft must match your swing DNA. If it doesn’t, you’ll struggle with consistency—no matter how sound your mechanics are.
At Dennis Sales Golf Academy, we use GEARS Golf to measure your swing and golf club in 3D, and combine that with TrackMan or GC Quad to track ball flight and impact data. We also analyze how your body interacts with the ground. This level of precision allows us to fit shafts that match how you move, not just how fast you swing. The result? More consistent impact, tighter dispersion, and more efficient energy transfer.
4. Control Ball Flight
The final element is controlling what happens after the club strikes the ball - but here’s the twist: you only influence ball flight before the ball leaves the clubface.
We call this the “bubble.” Inside the bubble are the things you control: your mind, your body, and the collision at impact. Outside the bubble is what the ball does after it leaves your clubface.
Golfers often focus too much on that external result. But if you can’t manage the internal elements, if your mental cues aren’t stable or your body is out of sync, you’ll never have true command over your ball flight.
We train players to master everything inside the bubble first. Because when that’s in order, what happens outside the bubble becomes predictable.
